I don’t want to go to work, I don’t want to go to school Got me a man, but he treats me mean and cruel Everybody says that’s the way it’s supposed to be I don’t know what’s wrong with me Chorus I want to rock, yeah yeah yeah I want to roll, ooh ooh ooh I want to jump, I want to jive I want to know that I’m alive I want to yeah, ooh, yeah, ooh rock and roll They say there’s a time for work, there’s a time for play A time to get down but it’s never today Every time I knock they say you can’t come in I keep banging till you let me in Chorus I feel like I am begging on my knees Won’t somebody help me now? Oooh weee They won’t let me have a drink, let me have a ball They never, never, never want no fun at all I don’t know what I’m gonna do I go crazy when I can’t see you Chorus Chorus
5.
He’s so sorry, I’m so broke He said, “Call me back baby” Man I need a smoke He said, “One more chance, I’m on my knees” One more drink don’t make me say please So far gone, I can’t say no Oh no… Chorus I’m love sick, love sick I’m burning up I’m love sick, love sick Oh baby yeah I’m love sick, love sick Don’t ya know I’m love sick, love sick On the floor Somebody help me cure this disease I’ve got shivers in my body, I need a hot toddy I’m so mad, but he’s too good He said, “Call me back baby” I know what I should He said, “One more chance, I’m at your door” Fill me up honey, oh more more more So far gone, I can’t say no Oh no… Chorus He’s so crazy, I’m so mean Put the salt on the rim, a shot of Jim Beam He said, “I’m coming over, you let me in” Give me sugar and spice, a tonic and gin So far gone, I can’t say no Oh no… Chorus He’s so sorry, I’m so broke He said, “Call me back baby” Man I need a smoke He said, “One more chance, I’m on my knees” One more drink don’t make me say please So far gone, I can’t say no Oh no… Chorus
6.
Chorus Take the long way down Take the long way down You want to make love to me? Take the long way down This town, this town will eat you alive When you’ve had enough boy, jump in the car and drive Honey slow down, Take a breath and ride Put your foot on the brakes, baby take your time Chorus Honey go round, ain’t no crime Better hold on tight, you wanna stay alive Baby don’t drown, take a breath and dive I’ll let you take the wheel, you let me be your guide Chorus Chorus Take the long way down Take the long way down
7.
Well he took me out dancing on a Saturday night He pulled me close and he held me tight Out through a window I saw a friend So I stepped out when I should’a stayed in While I was out chattin unknown to me He was smootching in the corner with Becky Lee Chorus He did the two-timin two step: two girls Two timin two step, two whirls Two timin two step: two lies Two timin two step: not wise That’s the last time baby you’re gonna get a dance with me When I came back he was sweet as could be I never once noticed pretty Becky Lee He spun me round, turned me out on the floor But pretty soon he was watching that door When Becky came in he was out like a light Shoulda known right then that somethin ain’t right Chorus When he came back he was talking so fast Miss Becky Lee almost walked right past We caught him in the corner, said “What’s goin on?” He said, “Sorry girls, but I gotta get gone” We said, “Wait one minute, you ain’t goin nowhere. You better stop your jiving and say your prayers” Chorus Chorus Chorus
8.
There’re boys who hang all over, never leave you alone There’re boys who are too clean, wear too much cologne There’re boys who will lie, flirt with your friends There’re boys who cheat, who always pretend There’re boys who tease, boys who taunt Oh no that’s not the kinda man I want Chorus I want a cool and mean, bopping kinda boy I want a dark and tall, rocking kinda boy I want a slicked-back hair, crusing kinda boy I want a cold, dark stare, brusing kinda boy Man, I know what I want No need to play coy Ooh! I want a rockabilly boy! Some boys will call you baby while they’re home with their wife Some boys will tear you down say you’re wasting your life Some boys will watch the game while you’re going to work Some boys will spend your money while they’re wearing a smirk Some boys will tease, boys will taunt You know that’s not the kind of man I want Chorus There’re boys who like to dance on a Friday night There’re boys who still know how to treat a girl right There’re boys who hold the door ‘fore you jump in the car There’re boys who’ll buy you drinks while you’re out at the bar There’re boys who know how to get a girl hot Yeah that’s just the kind of man I want Chorus Chorus
9.
You lied to me, said you were true You lied to me, what could I do? You lied to me, had to play rough You lied to me, you’re the boy who cried wolf Ow-wooooo Ow-wooooo You lied to me, I was a fool You lied to me, evil and cruel You lied to me, I called your bluff You lied to me, you’re the boy who cried wolf Ow-wooooo Ow-wooooo You lied to me, never again You lied to me, I won’t pretend You lied to me, a huff and a puff You lied to me, you’re the boy who cried wolf Ow-wooooo Ow-wooooo Ow-wooooo Ow-wooooo Ow Ow Owwwwww!
10.
Chorus What Daddy don’t know Oh oh oh What Daddy don’t know What Daddy don’t know Ain’t gonna do him no harm Daddy said listen girl you better pay attention Those boys will be pushing you to give ‘em some affection Keep your distance, don’t go Take it honey real slow Save it for the man that’s got time to make the love grow Smiled back with my fingers crossed beneath my coat He’s waiting out back, but Daddy don’t know Chorus Johnny’s at my window and he’s waiting for the signal Climbing down the chimney, it almost makes me giggle Keep it on the down low We start kissing real slow Watching time so I make it back before my pop knows Smiled as Johnny drives us off to see the show He’s mine oh mine, but daddy don’t know Chorus Chorus Chorus
11.
La Trompeta 03:24
Well he drove south of the border line, with la jura on his heels He raced across the desert sand hoping he might make a deal But the devil knows just what he done, and the devil he ain’t no fool La trompeta he drove anyway, hoping he might change the rules Now a trumpet man’s no sinner, but he’s sure as hell no saint And when Satan’s breathing down his neck, un tonto what he ain’t He knows when the time is right to fold his cards and go When the devil says, “Son play you’re horn” you blow that trumpet blow Chorus And he would blow, yeah, blow that trumpet blow Cause the devil wants to take him to a place that he don’t want to go Yeah he would blow, yeah, blow that trumpet blow And he keeps on playing on Down in Mexico Well he knew his time was running out con los hombres de el cartel And a desperate man will take a fight even right to the gates of hell But every man must pay his due before his day is done And the cost will rise as you try to hide, ‘till there’s nowhere left to run Chorus Yeah he would blow Oh he would blow Yeah blow Oh blow that trumpet blow Blow that trumpet blow Bloooooow!
12.
I boarded up my shutters, And I stopped taking your call I couldn’t take no chances, Tore my phone right out the wall I paid a man in cigarettes, to barricade the door He promised me, he promised me, you won’t be back no more I put away the silver and I locked up all the gin My fortune teller told me that I wouldn’t see you again Well my lights are all turned way down low I stopped seeing my friends So who let you in? I covered up the windows and I sealed each one up tight There is no exit anymore, I don’t even come out at night I locked the door, the gate, the car, then I swallowed down the key I blocked each route so I would know you could not follow me I shoveled deep beneath the ground, and I laid myself down low I found the only hideaway I knew you could not go Well the lights have all gone out tonight This should have been the end So who let you in? Who let you in?

about

Phoenix rockabilly band Whiskey Kiss flouts tradition in a genre typically known for clinging to its roots. In their debut album Dangerous One, they break free from the three-chord stereotype with a record heavy on roots, but light on convention. "They're gonna surprise you. They're gonna come out of left field, they're gonna jab you, and they're gonna tell you what's up,” says Tiny, host of popular podcast Friction in the Static. With trumpet, pop melodies, and a range far beyond what you’d expect for a rockabilly band, Whiskey Kiss pushes the boundaries with Dangerous One.

The album kicks off with the title track- almost. The Dangerous One theme is a sultry sendoff, reminiscent of James Bond films, and then the follow-up track completes the sixties surf/spy feel. Just to show they can do tradition, You Upset Me is a rocking cover of an obscure Diana Lee tune, though they can’t help but throw in a little piano and harmonica to spice things up. Hot Toddy (Love Sick) is a sweaty, in-your-face number with a popping chorus, and Take the Long Way Down is the perfect sexy cool down. La Trompeta is a mariachi Devil Went Down to Georgia, and the sinister finale Who Let You In? really shows off what this band can do.
